Apple’s October 2024 Event: M4 Macs, iPad Mini, and Leaks Set the Stage for Big Announcements

Apple’s next big event is almost here, and it promises to be a game-changer for tech enthusiasts. With whispers about the powerful new M4 Macs and a redesigned iPad Mini swirling in the rumour mill, there’s plenty to get excited about. Plus, leaks from Russian YouTubers and insider reports have only added to the hype.

Here’s what you need to know about Apple’s highly anticipated October event.

M4 Macs Steal the Spotlight

The upcoming event is expected to focus heavily on the M4 chip, which will power Apple’s next generation of devices. The M4 represents a major leap forward in performance, with a 10-core CPU and GPU, offering faster processing, enhanced graphics, and improved multitasking.

Here are the key products we expect to see powered by the M4 chip:

  1. M4 MacBook Pro (14-inch and 16-inch)
Apple’s fan-favourite MacBook Pro is getting a serious upgrade with the M4 chip. This new model is rumoured to come with 16GB of RAM in its base configuration (up from 8GB in the M3 version) and three Thunderbolt 4 ports, making it ideal for creative professionals who need extra power and connectivity.

Additionally, leaks hint that the MacBook Pro might be available in Space Black, a colour previously reserved for high-end models, adding a touch of luxury to the base version.

  2. Mac Mini Revamp
Apple’s compact desktop, the Mac Mini, is also due for a refresh. The new version is expected to be more powerful and sleeker, featuring the M4 and M4 Pro chip options. It’s perfect for users looking for a desktop that packs a punch without taking up too much space.

One big change could be the removal of USB Type-A ports, with USB-C ports becoming the norm. This modernized design will align the Mac Mini with Apple’s latest laptops.

  3. iMac with M4 Chip
The trusted iMac isn’t being left behind. While no drastic design changes are expected, the new M4 chip is set to bring enhanced performance to the 24-inch iMac. This upgrade will make Apple’s all-in-one desktop even more appealing for home and professional users alike.

iPad Mini: Small But Mighty

The iPad Mini, codenamed J410, is also getting an upgrade. For fans of Apple’s compact tablet, this refresh is long-awaited, and it seems Apple is addressing a major issue: jelly scrolling. This problem, where one side of the screen refreshes slower than the other, should be fixed in the new model.

The iPad Mini could also get a performance boost thanks to the A18 chip, borrowed from the iPhone 16 series. Additionally, a landscape-oriented front camera is rumoured, making video calls and content creation more comfortable in horizontal mode. Some reports even suggest support for the Apple Pencil Pro, which would make the iPad Mini a fantastic tool for creative professionals on the go.

The Leak Frenzy: Real or Fake?

Adding intrigue to the upcoming event are leaks that surfaced recently, with Russian YouTubers claiming to have early access to an M4 MacBook Pro. These unboxing videos provided a detailed look at the device, although their legitimacy hasn’t been confirmed by Apple. The leaked benchmarks for the M4 chip show impressive scores—3,864 for single-core and 15,288 for multi-core, according to Geekbench, a significant leap from the M3.

To make things more interesting, rumours have swirled about a possible security breach at Apple, with suggestions that a batch of these unreleased devices was stolen from a warehouse and sold online. While it’s unclear whether these leaks are accurate, they have certainly heightened anticipation for the official event.

What to Expect After October

Apple’s innovation train doesn’t stop here. Looking ahead to 2025, Apple fans can expect new MacBook Air models with M4 chips in both 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, alongside an updated iPhone SE and refreshed iPad Air models. Apple is also reportedly working on a new AirTag and redesigned Magic Keyboards to complement these new devices.
