What is Visa Intelligent Commerce?

Visa’s new program, Visa Intelligent Commerce, lets AI do your shopping. Think of it as having an AI shopping assistant connected to your Visa card. You set your preferences and budget (for example, “organic groceries under $100”), and a smart agent browses online stores and checks out for you, all through Visa’s secure network.




How AI Agents Work with Your Card

  • Set rules and preferences: You tell the AI what to buy, where to shop, and how much to spend.

  • Personalised suggestions: It learns from your past likes (with your permission) to find items you’ll love.

  • Smart shopping: The AI compares products across stores just like a personal shopper.

  • Approval and purchase: It shows you top picks to approve. If you agree (or allow auto-buy within limits), it completes the purchase using a secure digital token instead of your real card number.




In short, you guide the AI by setting clear rules and budgets, and it handles the rest – searching, comparing, and ordering items for you.

Security: Tokenisation and Smart Payments

Visa makes this secure using tokenisation. Instead of sharing your real card details, Visa issues the AI a one-time payment token. This smart payment token lets the agent pay on your behalf without exposing your actual card number. Visa’s network also watches transactions for fraud in real time. The AI can only spend within the rules you set, and Visa handles any disputes just as with a normal purchase.
