Anthropic has moved Claude Cowork beyond the desktop, bringing its agentic AI assistant to the web and mobile so users can start work on one device, track progress on another, and come back to finished output later. The update strengthens Claude Cowork’s position as a broader productivity tool rather than a coding-only product, with rollout focused first on paid users.




What is Claude Cowork?

Before diving into the new features, it’s essential to understand what makes Claude Cowork different from standard AI chat interfaces. Unlike traditional tools, where you prompt a model step-by-step, Cowork is built around delegation. You give it an objective, like "reconcile these expense reports" or "summarise these meeting transcripts", and it autonomously navigates connected tools, drafts content, and manages workflows until the job is done.




Anthropic refers to this as handling "the work around the work", the administrative heavy lifting that consumes our days but rarely defines our job titles.

Key Features: What Changes with the Cross-Platform Launch?

The expansion to web and mobile introduces a trio of game-changing capabilities that redefine workflow flexibility:




  • Cloud-Powered Background Execution: This is the headline feature. Previously, if your computer went to sleep, your AI agent did too. Now, tasks run remotely on Anthropic’s servers. You can close your laptop, lose Wi-Fi, or turn off your phone entirely, and Claude keeps grinding away in the background.

  • Cross-Device Continuity: Your work follows you seamlessly. Start a deep-research task on your desktop at the office, monitor its progress on your phone during your commute, and review the final spreadsheet on a tablet at home. The sessions are tied to your cloud account, not your hardware.

  • Scheduled Automation: You can now set tasks to run at specific times. Need a weekly industry news digest ready by 6 AM Monday? Schedule it. Claude will pull the data overnight without requiring any device to be online.

  • Human-in-the-Loop Mobile Pings: Anthropic hasn't removed the human element. If Claude hits a fork in the road requiring judgment, like which design template to use or how to phrase a sensitive email, it pushes a notification directly to your phone. You tap an approval or provide context, and the agent keeps moving. Nothing ships without your final say.

  • A Unified Interface: On web and desktop, "Chat" and "Cowork" now share a single home screen. The friction between asking a quick question and assigning a long-term project has effectively disappeared.

However, the Web and Mobile versions excel at cloud workflows, connecting to services like Google Drive, Slack, and Gmail.

  • Bonus: To celebrate the launch, Anthropic has doubled Claude Cowork usage limits through August 5, giving early adopters plenty of room to experiment.

This proves that the real market for AI agents lies in empowering the millions of knowledge workers in HR, finance, marketing, and operations who are drowning in operational friction.

Closing the "Delegation Gap"

Currently, there is a massive gap between using AI and trusting it to work unsupervised. By moving execution to the cloud and pushing decision-points to mobile notifications, Anthropic is designing for "intelligent oversight." You no longer need to babysit the screen; you just review the high-stakes decisions. It shifts the user's role from "prompt engineer" to "manager."

The Competitive Landscape
