  • First-Time Setup: When you first activate Footsteps, Snapchat will dive into your Memories and map out past trips you’ve documented through Snaps. This means all those summer holidays, weekend getaways, or spontaneous road trips you’ve captured are counted.

  • Real-Time Travel Tracking: From there, Footsteps uses real-time location data to track any new places you visit. Whether you’re wandering through the streets of Tokyo or just checking out a local cafe, Footsteps will update your map with each new location you snap.

  • Detailed Exploration Percentages: Not only will it map your travels, but Footsteps also shows what percentage of a specific location you’ve explored. For example, it can display that you've covered 25% of Paris or 60% of your hometown.

Privacy and Control

One of the key concerns with any location-based feature is privacy, and Snapchat has addressed this with Footsteps. Here’s what you need to know:




  • Footsteps Data is Private: Your travel history is for your eyes only. Footsteps is completely private, meaning only you can view your personal travel map.

  • Ghost Mode and Footsteps: Footsteps works when Ghost Mode (which hides your location on Snap Map) is turned off. This does mean your friends can see your current location, but your travel data stays hidden from them.

  • Easy Deletion: Not feeling the Footsteps vibe anymore? You can easily disable it or delete your Footsteps history from the app settings.
