The extension is currently in its early access phase, allowing early adopters to secure their unique domains for an additional one-time fee. The public release is scheduled for December 5, with domains available at a standard annual rate.

Notable examples include grumpy cat.meme, nyancat.meme, and keyboardcat.meme, focusing on the ever-popular cat memes. Even meme explainer giant knowyour.meme has adopted the '.meme' domain address.

Google Registry has partnered with diverse entities to showcase the versatility of the '.meme' extension. This includes collaborations with Tenor, a GIF and meme specialist, introducing platforms like find.meme and create.meme. As of now, users can register their '.meme' domains during the Early Access Period (EAP), with fees decreasing daily until December 5. Starting at 16:00 UTC on December 5, the domains will be publicly available at a standard annual price through preferred registrars. The registration process can be explored at get.meme.
