Instagram’s New Comments Feature: A Game-Changer for Engagement on Stories

Instagram has rolled out a new comments feature for Stories, marking a significant shift in how users interact on the platform. Previously, responses to Stories were limited to private messages, visible only to the Story creator. Now, users can leave public comments, enhancing community engagement and fostering more dynamic interactions.




Key Features of Instagram’s Comments on Stories:

  1. Public Comments: Users can now leave public comments on Stories that are visible to the followers of the person who posted the Story. This is a departure from the previous system, where interactions were confined to private messages.

  2. Mutual Followers Only: Initially, only mutual followers (users who follow each other) can comment on each other’s Stories. However, users have the option to adjust settings and allow comments from all followers.

  3. Temporary Nature: Like Stories, comments disappear after 24 hours, ensuring that interactions remain within the ephemeral nature of the Stories format.

  4. Control Over Comments: Users can enable or disable comments on a Story-by-Story basis, giving them flexibility and control over their interactions.




How the Feature Works:

  • Locate the Comment Icon: At the bottom of a Story, users will now find a comment icon.
  • Post a Comment: Users can type their message in the provided field and hit "Send."
  • Visibility: The comments will be visible to everyone who can view the Story, enhancing open conversations.
