Calling all Instagram users! Get ready to take your direct messaging (DM) experience to the next level with a wave of exciting new features. Meta has recently announced a series of updates aimed at enhancing communication and personalization within the platform's messaging service.



Edit Away Your Typos: A 15-Minute Window for Message Perfection

One of the most requested features is finally here! You can now edit your sent messages within a 15-minute window after hitting send. This comes in handy for fixing typos, adding missing information, or simply rephrasing your message for better clarity. To edit a message, simply press and hold on the sent message and select "edit" from the dropdown menu. The edited message will be marked with an "Edited" label, but the recipient won't see the original version.



Pin Your Favorite Chats for Easy Access

Say goodbye to endlessly scrolling through your inbox! Instagram is introducing the ability to pin up to three of your most important chats, be it with your closest friends, family, or favourite groups, right at the top of your inbox. This makes it easier to access your frequent conversations without wasting time searching. To pin a chat, simply swipe left or tap and hold on the chat, and then select "pin."



Privacy Matters: Take Control of Read Receipts

For users who value their privacy, Instagram now offers more control over read receipts. You can choose to turn them on or off for all chats or even adjust them on an individual chat basis. This allows you to decide whether you want to inform the sender if you've seen their message. To manage read receipts, navigate to your account settings, tap "Messages and story reply," and toggle the "Show read receipts" option.



Save Your Favorite Stickers for Speedy Replies

Adding a touch of fun and personality to your conversations just got easier. Instagram now allows you to save your favourite stickers for quick access in future chats. Simply press and hold on a sticker you like, and it will be saved at the top of the sticker section for easy retrieval.



Express Yourself with a Splash of Color: New Chat Themes

Personalize your conversations and set the mood with a variety of new chat themes. From the classic "Love" theme (soon to be animated!), to the playful "Lollipop" and the nostalgic "Avatar: The Last Airbender" theme, there's a theme to match every mood and personality. To change the theme for a chat, tap the chat name at the top, go into themes, and select your desired option.



Beyond the DMs: Additional Instagram Updates

These DM updates are just a part of Instagram's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience. The platform has also introduced features like location tags in Notes for enriched sharing, a dedicated Threads app for text-based interactions, group profiles for fostering community engagement, and the ability to schedule posts for better content management.
