LinkedIn Data Breached, Exposing Personal Information of Over 35 Million Users

A hacker has leaked a database containing the personal information of over 35 million LinkedIn users. The database was leaked on the hacking platform Breach Forums and contains publicly available information from users' profiles, including full names, profile bios, and email addresses. No passwords are included in the leaked data. 



The hacker confirmed that the database was obtained through web scraping, a process of using automated software to extract data from websites.
This is not the first time that LinkedIn has experienced a data breach. In 2021, two scraped LinkedIn databases with 500 million and 827 million records were leaked for sale.



Troy Hunt of HaveIBeenPwned analyzed over 5 million accounts from the database and concluded that it includes a mixture of information from various sources, including public LinkedIn profiles, fabricated email addresses, and other sources. Hunt emphasized that while some of the data might be anecdotal or partially fabricated, the people, companies, domains, and many email addresses are real.

    If you are a LinkedIn user, it is recommended that you change your password and enable multi-factor authentication. You should also be aware that the leaked data may be used by scammers to target you with phishing attacks. Be wary of any unsolicited emails or messages that claim to be from LinkedIn or other legitimate organizations.
