Elon Musk Reverses Decision to Remove Headlines from Article Links on X

Elon Musk has announced that X, formerly known as Twitter, will start showing headlines in preview cards with URLs on the platform again after removing titles last month. In a tweet, Musk said that in an upcoming update, the company will overlay the title in the upper portion of the image of a URL Card. He didn't mention any specific timeline for rollout or give an example of what might the card look like.



The decision to reverse course comes after a backlash from users and advertisers. Users had expressed frustration with the lack of context in links without headlines, and advertisers had paused spending on the platform after Musk endorsed a post on X pushing the antisemitic replacement theory.

It is unclear whether the new format for headlines will be more to the liking of users and advertisers. However, the decision to bring back headlines is a positive step for X, as it will make it easier for users to see the context of links without having to click on them.

Users and advertisers alike expressed concerns about the lack of context in links without headlines. Additionally, some critics argued that the move was an attempt by Musk to control the narrative on the platform.

The decision to bring back headlines is a welcome one, but it is unclear whether it will be enough to repair X's image. The platform has been plagued by controversy since Musk took over, and it remains to be seen whether he can regain the trust of users and advertisers.

    The removal of headlines from article links on X was a short-sighted decision that backfired spectacularly. Musk should have listened to his critics and avoided making the change in the first place.     It is unclear when the chage will be rolled out, but Musk has said that it will be in an "upcoming release".
