Numerous Google Drive for Desktop users are reporting unexpected data loss, with some experiencing missing files spanning months or even years. The issue, acknowledged by Google, is attributed to a sync problem in versions 84.0.0.0 through 84.0.4.0. A Google community support thread reveals users' frustrations, stating that their IT teams couldn't trace the vanished files. Google is cautioning users against making changes to the app data folder and is actively investigating the issue affecting a "limited subset" of users. Data recovery attempts have proven unsuccessful, leaving users anxious and seeking answers.
