UN Forms Advisory Body to Address Global Challenges in AI Governance

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has announced the creation of a 39-member advisory body to address issues in the international governance of artificial intelligence. The body includes tech company executives, government officials, and academics from around the world.


The body's immediate tasks include building a global scientific consensus on the risks and challenges of AI and strengthening international cooperation on AI governance. The body is expected to issue preliminary recommendations by the end of this year and final recommendations by the summer of 2024.
The creation of the UN advisory body on AI is a significant step in addressing the growing challenges of AI governance. As AI becomes more powerful and widely used, it is increasingly important to develop international norms and standards for its responsible development and use.



The body's diverse membership, which includes representatives from government, industry, academia, and civil society, is well-positioned to develop comprehensive and balanced recommendations on AI governance.
